Why libraries must communicate value

Librarians must be able to convert the general feelings of goodwill towards the library to advocating the value to the entire academic community

1. For budget purpose
Demonstrating value is key if libraries are to be able to continue to claim their share of institutional funding. it also serve a good tool to decide were to allocate more funds.

2. Economic pressure from parent institutions
Unless we give universities better and more compelling reasons to support libraries, they will be forced by economic reality to stop doing so.

3. Accountability
Libraries will be expected to justify their expenditure in relation to academic effectiveness

4. Good business practise
Management by objective is just a good business practise. It is a good motivation for staff to see the value of their work.

5. Value as quality measure
quantified value serves an good quality control measure for the organisation.
